Hey ya’ll! Happy Friday/Veterans Day Observed.
I work for a public library, so we are closed today in honor of the holiday. If you haven’t visited your local public library recently, you may not know that public libraries tend to be a gathering place for the homeless, many of whom are veterans. They come for warmth, for shelter from the weather, to use the restrooms and even to use the computers or read to pass the time. Since today we are observing Veterans Day and Thanksgiving is right around the corner, I thought I would offer a little known fact and tell you about a super easy way to help the homeless this season.
Did you know? I didn’t until last year when a local shelter approached us about having a sock drive at the library. Having warm feet prevents frostbite and is essential for those with Diabetes.
There are many organizations who accept sock donations, as well as sock companies who donate a pair of socks for every pair you purchase. A simple google search “socks for homeless” will give you some ideas. You can always drop off a pack of new socks to your local homeless shelter too.

She has so many cute ideas! From repurposing old dresser drawers to kitty perches, to making a cat-friendly headboard out of doormats (I know that sounds weird – but check it out). She even has a DIY that I’ve done in my cat room – hiding the litter box in plain sight.
